This course is designed to assist counties, cities, special districts and Tribal Communities in the requirements needed to complete an approvable Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). The goal of the course is to provide plan developers with the information necessary to prepare and implement a local hazard mitigation plan. The workshop focuses on the required elements of the FEMA Review Tool, including the planning process, hazard identification and risk assessment, development of mitigation strategies, and plan review, evaluation and implementation as described in 44 of the Code of Federal Regulations (44 CFR) §201.7. Those jurisdictions who have recently received or applied for a mitigation planning grant, have never had an LHMP, or have an LHMPs expiring in the near future, are encouraged to attend. This course will be co-taught by FEMA and Cal OES instructors.
-Define and identify the benefits of hazard mitigation planning
-Develop or update a local mitigation plan
-Identify available resources and guidance for mitigation planning and plan implementation
Local, State, Tribal officials and others involved in the development of mitigation plans.
